macOS Monterey Installation

macOS Monterey can now be installed without the risk of damaging the Mac.

macOS 12 Monterey gets an updated installer, which essentially contains a bug fix: The software for the T2 security chip was buggy and could cripple a Mac in some circumstances. According to Apple’s information, the following devices were affected by the bug:

  • iMac (Retina 5K, 27″, 2020)
  • iMac‌ Pro
  • Mac Pro (2019)
  • Mac mini (2018)
  • MacBook Air (Retina, 13″, 2020)
  • MacBook Air‌ (Retina, 13″, 2019)
  • ‌MacBook Air‌ (Retina, 13″, 2018)
  • MacBook Pro (13″, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13″, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (16″, 2019)
  • MacBook Pro (13″, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15″, 2019)
  • MacBook Pro (13″, 2019, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15″, 2018)
  • MacBook Pro (13″, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)

All of these Macs include the T2 chip. However, some users of older devices also report that the Mac does not boot after an installation. If this is the case for you, you should contact Apple Support.

With this update, you no longer have to worry that macOS Monterey will completely paralyze your Mac. All other restrictions (also for server users) are still valid.
