A petition on change.org wants Apple to swap keyboards in MacBook Pros.

The new generation of keyboards with butterfly mechanism, first introduced in the MacBook 12″, are more likely to fail than the older models. There are many users of a MacBook Pro, especially from 2016, who often have non functioning keys while others have no problems at all.

The 12-inch MacBook from 2015 (featuring the first generation of the keyboard) on which this article is currently being written has had two jamming keys that could be made working again, but apparently the extremely flat design and reality are calibrated a bit too optimistic.

Apple, it’s time: recall every MacBook Pro released since Late 2016, and replace the keyboards on all of them with new, redesigned keyboards that just work.

Because, these keyboards do not work.

In 2017 a revised version of the butterfly keyboard was introduced and that version shall be both a little quieter and more durable. Matthew Taylor, the initiator of the petition, wants to see this version in all models from 2016 and force Apple to exchange all keyboards. A noble goal. Although there are always reports of angry users in the network, official figures, whether the Butterfly Keyboard has more failures than the previous version do not exist.

If you’re also hit by a striking keyboard, take part in the petition . In addition, we are interested in your opinion whether your model has faults or can still be typed on without problems.
