Basic Settings Apple AirPort Extreme Wifi Router
When the AirPort Extreme is plugged in, it pops up in the AirPort Configuration Utility (Programs > Utilities). If you configure it over Wifi, the first contact takes place via the Wifi symbol in the top right corner of the menu bar on your Mac. It will be listed as a new device.
The configuration wizard launches and queries all relevant data and also asks for a password for the AirPort Extreme. This also applies at the same time as a Wifi password. If you do not want to do that, you should click on the leftmost button at the beginning, then you will have more options. However, everything can be adjusted afterwards.
If you just want to use the AirPort only as an access point (just Wi-Fi), you have to click through the assistant first (you can use false values). Then make the following settings: Under Network, select "Off (Bridge Mode)".
As for Internet settings: choose "DHCP". Thus, the Apple router (now Access Point) automatically gets an address from the existing router and does not care anymore about the address assignment.
