For many, a wish has come true: The Mac mini is now available not only with the new M2 chip, but also with the more powerful M2 Pro variant. This makes the M2 Pro Mac mini a super alternative to the even more powerful Mac Studio.
The regular M2 offers an 8-core CPU with four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, combined with a 10-core GPU. The price is 699 euros. The small model can play two streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps or up to 12 streams of 4K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps simultaneously.
With up to a 12-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, along with up to a 19-core GPU, the M2 Pro has a memory bandwidth of 200 GB/s – double that of the M2 – and supports up to 32 GB of memory. This allows up to five streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps or up to 23 streams of 4K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps to be played back simultaneously. Also interesting: this model variant offers two more Thunderbolt ports (for a total of four), and three displays are supported.
