Apple self-repair launched in Europe

In Europe, too, you can now officially repair the iPhone yourself.

If you have a defective iPhone, you can now order original spare parts from Apple in Europe and also rent the right tools.

Apple provides some replacement parts at https://selfservicerepair.eu/. However, this only happens for the latest smartphones: iPhone 12 and newer and the SE 3 can be repaired with original Apple spare parts.

However, Apple has set the prices in such a way that it is almost not worth the effort: If a normal display repair at Apple costs 339 euros for the iPhone 12, the replacement part alone costs 290 euros (and you also have to send the old display back for that). Apple calculates the worker at around 50 euros. If you now borrow the appropriate tool kit from Apple, it costs another 59.90, which means that you are above the repair price in the store and have more running around.

Apple’s offer is particularly useful if you need smaller spare parts such as screws that are otherwise difficult to find. Or if you really need to repair several iPhones in a row, for which you would then like to have the original tool.

We are of the opinion that it makes more sense to repair directly with Apple, especially for current devices. However, this does not apply to older devices: repairing them yourself is almost always worthwhile. However, you should then resort to cheaper spare parts that make repairs in line with the current value possible, for example from replacement.ninja.
