Apple had launched the iMac Pro before the completely redesigned Mac Pro was introduced. So, one could argue that the iMac Pro was a kind of transitional model.
In addition, the computing power of the “normal” iMacs has increased so much that the need to offer a Pro version of the device has decreased. Now Apple is discontinuing the iMac Pro.
