From now on you can also pay in Germany with Apple Pay! If you are customer of the right bank, of course.
Apple has now activated Apple Pay in Germany. The support of banks that participate in the system, however, is still quite clear and does not really cover the mass of users yet. Currently, users of the following banks can participate in Apple Pay:
- American Express
- boon
- Bunq
- comdirect (Visa)
- German Bank (MasterCard)
- fidor Bank
- Hanseatic Bank
- Hypovereinsbank (MasterCard)
- N26 (MasterCard)
- o2 Banking
- Ticket Restaurant Edenred
- VIMPay
Other banks are still considering it or will be added next year. We will keep you up to date when other payment institutions join.
On Apple’s Apple Pay page you can see which merchants already support Apple Pay. Technical requirement is in principle only a wireless reader, which is also used for contactless payments via Maestro or credit card – you simply hold the iPhone against it instead.
