If you have a 13-inch MacBook Pro with function keys and a 128GB or 256GB SSD, read on now.

Apple macbook pro update True Tone Technology 07122018

Apple has found that these SSDs can cause data loss and you need to have Apple update the firmware directly. Only devices without touch bar that were sold between June 2017 and June 2018 are affected.

Since the update, which takes about an hour, deletes all data on the SSD, you will have to create a complete backup yourself and restore it yourself after the update. Unfortunately, the effort seems reasonable, because the alternative is potential data loss.

You can check the serial number of your device on Apple’s service program page. If you are affected, make a backup and make an appointment with Apple.
