Apple has two categories of iPhone repairs: Only display repair or replacement of the entire device. The new Xr has lower prices than the Xs and Xs Max.
Thus, the repair and replacement prices also reflect the placement of the Xr as a more affordable iPhone. Compared to an iPhone 7 or 8, the screen repair of the Xr is with 199 dollars is 50 dollars more expensive than with the smaller models but also 80 dollars cheaper than with the Xs, which has an OLED display.
The complete exchange of an iPhone Xr for other damages is on the same level as the iPhone 8 Plus: 399 dollars. This flat rate is due for all repairs that do not affect the display and are therefore also necessary if, for example, the glass back is damaged. The price applies equally to all memory variants.
The exchange price for Xs and Xs Max is 549 and 599 dollars, respectively, i.e. approximately half the new price.
With regard to the display repair prices we point out as usual that the prices for the current Apple models are reasonable. With old iPhones, a display from eBay might be sufficient, but if you want to continue using an iPhone 7 and newer in the same quality as before the screen broke, you will probably buy a good quality display anyway, for example from ifixit.
Especially with current iPhones a display repair directly at Apple makes sense.
You will save between 50 and 80 dollars, but haven’t yet installed it. Those who have already done this themselves will notice that the waterproof glued models starting from the iPhone 7 on are quite time-consuming to repair. If you damage the homebutton, you haven’t saved anything. This should not be an argumentation for one or the other repair variant, we only would like to point out that the surcharge Apple takes for the repair is appropriate for newer devices in our opinion. For older devices that calculation may vary. You have to decide for yourself, of course.
