With iOS 12, Apple had set themselfs the goal of speeding up iOS during development. And that was very well done.
Apple itself states, for example, that the camera of an iPhone 5 should load up to 70 percent faster. And that seems to be correct. We measured times between 3.7 and 4 seconds before the camera is ready to use for the first time in iOS 11 and around 1.8 seconds under iOS 12. A clear improvement. The boot time has also been significantly shortened: from 40 to 45 seconds to about 32 seconds.
With the iPhone 7, the difference isn’t quite so obvious: the boot time has only been reduced by a few seconds. But faster is always better. And here, too, the system simply feels a bit more polished. With iOS 12 Apple has succeeded in making a pretty good system: It’s stable and fast and also has some new features.
