Synology has released a Disk Station Manager update for your NAS systems. This will be the last functional update for many models.
Synology lists all models that get new functions for the last time. These are the following:
- XS Series : RS3412xs, RS3412RPxs, RS3411xs, RS3411RPxs, DS3612xs, DS3611xs
- Plus Series : RS2212+, RS2212RP+, RS2211+, RS2211RP+, RS812+, RS812RP+, DS2411+, DS1812+, DS1512+, DS1511+, DS712+, DS412+, DS411+II, DS411+, DS213+, DS212+, DS211+, DS112+
- Value Series : RS812, RS212, DS413, DS411, DS213, DS212, DS211, DS112, DS111
- J Series : DS413j, DS411j, DS411slim, DS213air, DS212j, DS211j, DS112j
- Others : NVR216, NVR1218, DDSM
There will be no more function updates for the next two years, but at least security updates. Most models are from 2011 and 2012 (indicated by the last two digits in the product name).
Do not buy the NVR1218 Network Video Recorder anymore.
However, newer models are also removed from support: the NVR216 from 2016 and also the Network Video Recorder NVR1218, which is even still on sale. We advise against this modes now as it is already foreseeable that there will be no up to date software in two years.
A main function of the new system version is the fact that when the system is newly set up, all updates accumulated up to that point are also directly installed. However, a model from 2017 or newer is required. Older Synologys do not have enough computing power.
