Has Apple lost interest in supporting 3D Touch for iPhones?

Rumor has it that Apple is planning to drop the 3D Touch function, which makes it possible to perform further functions with a firmer pressure on the iPhone display, with the coming new iPhone.

3d touch

This is justified by cost savings. It would be understandable for the entry-level model of the planned new models, but for the top devices with OLED display this would be a technological step backwards.

One must honestly say that the 3D Touch function never really reached its optimum which it could with more innovative support. One function, however, has always been fantastic and would be certainly missing: moving the cursor between the letters when you press the keyboard. This function is used by so many people every day that 3D Touch has its justification for it alone. What do you think?
