Apple opens a new store in Kyoto, Japan.
It is located at Shijō Dori, the main shopping street that has existed since the 1600s. Many shrines and temples are also located here. In order to adapt to the architectural environment, the design was inspired by the translucent cover of a Japanese lantern. A light wooden construction and paper for the upper façade also establishes a connection to the traditional Japanese construction method. It is interesting to know that the first Apple Store outside the USA was opened in Tokyo in 2003.
Inside, the new store offers a multi-storey atrium where Apple’s photography, music and programming courses take place. Similar to the new store in Milan, Apple has managed to adapt the external architecture to the grown environment and at the same time to modern interior layout.
