Apple has brought True Tone technology to Macs with the 2018 MacBook Pros. It is also possible to use this function with external displays.

True Tone adjusts the colour temperature to the prevailing light conditions so that the colours always look natural. The function can be easily switched on under System Settings > Displays.

If this is the case, you probably want to use the same adjustment for externally connected monitors. Apple allows this for its own models. So you can use the function for the old Thunderbolt display (still a great monitor) as well as the two currently distributed LG UltraFine displays with 4K and 5K resolution. Here is Apple’s official page for that function. For the Thunderbolt Display you have to take the detour over the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.

In any case, it’s nice to hear that Apple is retroactively providing the popular Thunderbolt display with a new function, even if only remote-controlled via a new MacBook Pro.
