Apple has released the latest operating system version macOS Ventura for download.
The most exciting new function is that the iPhone can now be used as a webcam without any additional software. This is very nice if you frequently do professional video conferencing – the webcams in MacBooks just aren’t good enough.
Also very practical: the shared iCloud photo library. This allows you to work with multiple people on shared photos. This is extremely convenient for families.
The Stage Manager offers you another window management option under macOS. Anyone who has missed this can perhaps make friends with Stage Manager, with which you can group programs according to your own wishes and thus create a better overview.
As usual, we recommend a full backup before updating.
Macs that are at least from 2017 are compatible, with MacBook Air and Mac mini it even has to be 2018, with Mac Pro 2019. So Apple is once again eliminating software support for many models.
But: Ventura can probably also be installed on Macs that Apple has discarded using the OpenCore Legacy Patcher tool. However, the work is not finished yet, the changes to the current system are very profound. If you have an older Mac, you should get Monterey, that is also certain until 2024 thanks to ongoing security updates.
