The iPhone 14 can be opened from the back again, as was the case with the iPhone 4. This makes replacing a defective glass back much easier.
Until now, you either had to pay the very high repair fee or find an independent repair shop that used a laser to burn away the adhesive under the glass on the back and then stick on a new glass. Apple is also now giving separate prices for the iPhone 14 back glass repair and these are still reasonably reasonable and are also cheaper compared to those for the iPhone 14 Pro as you can see.
Repair prices for the Glass Back of
- iPhone 14: $169
- iPhone 14 Plus: $199
- iPhone 14 Pro: $499
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: $549
You can also think of it this way: a crack on the back of the 14 Pro is just as expensive as a completely new 128GB iPhone SE. The prices for the iPhone 14 Pro are exactly half the purchase price.
The prices make it clear that only the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are built using the new (old) removable glass back construction method, where you can remove either the back or the display (or both, of course) separately. The back of the iPhone 14 Pro is still glued, which means that Apple then replaces the entire housing and only retains the mainboard, camera and display from the original iPhone.
