Apple has not introduced a completely new design for the Apple Watch Series 8, but it does have new monitoring features. The Apple Watch Ultra also has a second speaker and always comes with cellular connectivity. A battery charge is supposed to last 36 hours due to the large capacity, and even 60 hours in low power mode. In addition, the GPS is much more accurate than the normal model. The first new feature added to the new Series 8 is an ovulation sensor. Ovulation is monitored over time by two temperature sensors included in the smartwatch. With this, Apple adds another tool to its health features. Apple promises that the recorded data will remain private. The function works retrospectively.
Crash Detection is also new: If the Apple Watch detects a car accident, it automatically dials 911. A G-Force sensor detects the high forces involved in an accident. In Europe, all new cars registered since 2018 must also have such an automatic emergency call. But especially for users of older vehicles or users in other countries, the Apple Watch is of course a super addition.
A low power mode is supposed to ensure that a battery charge lasts for 36 hours. The essential functions are supposed to remain intact.
The Apple Watch SE, the slightly cheaper model, comes without the health features. The back is now made of plastic, while the case remains aluminum. Crash detection is on board. The display remains the older version with the slightly thicker black border.
