The cut for the support of Apple’s Mac operating system macOS Ventura (version 13) is very hard this time: Everything under computers from 2017 is no longer supported.

This means that the classic MacBook Pro 2015 is no longer on the list, but also the then completely revised successor model MacBook Pro 2016. Users of the MacBook Air 2017, which was sold until July 2019, should not be happy either: Apple also stops the possibility to update to the latest macOS version here. Thus, buyers who accessed it at the end of the build period only got three years of updates. That is quite little. Always the usual two years of security updates for the last possible macOS version are added.

It looks like Apple doesn’t really want to support Apple computers with Intel chips anymore and wants to get rid of them as soon as possible. That’s why many models are directly written off for two generations this time. On the other hand, Apple is currently still selling an Intel model: the 2018 mini. It will probably only have a very short lifespan when sales are stopped.

If you think that this is part of Apple’s planned obsolescence, you might be right. However, you don’t have to accept this: With this project it is relatively easy to install a new macOS on a computer that is not supported by Apple. macOS runs perfectly on older machines. The restriction is only artificially given.
