Warning: Do not update M1 Macs with a swapped board!

macOS Monterey Installation

Do not install Monterey on a repaired M1 Mac.

People are currently updating their Macs to macOS 12.3. It seems this version has a bug and it can cause problems if you are using a repaired M1 Mac.

If the logic board of a Mac with an Apple silicon chip has been replaced due to a defect, it can happen that the Mac no longer starts or is caught in a bootloop. It is not yet clear what the cause is, but in various forums there are reports from users whose board was exchanged by Apple and whose Mac is now defective as a result of the update.

So wait with the update if your Mac’s repair history is similar and don’t install the update to macOS 12.3 yet. If nothing has ever been exchanged, you should be on the safe side.

Here is a also tip for users of 4K monitors who may no longer display a picture after updating to macOS 12.3.
