Problems with Western Digital hard disks on M1 Macs – solved

Western Digital drives macOS Monterey

The macOS Monterey update to 12.1 solves some problems.

Maybe you have a Mac with M1 chips and want to use drives from Western Digital on it – then there could be problems if you use macOS Monterey.

Under this system version there are problems with external drives. These will either only show up in Disk Utility or crash the Finder, for example. Sometimes everything is also listed cleanly, but you can’t access content.

The problem is solved with the latest update to macOS Monterey 12.1. If you have had these problems, an update to the latest macOS version will help.
