The upcoming iOS and macOS generation again excludes some old devices from the update. Unfortunately these devices are no longer included: iPhone 5s and 6 as well as the Mac Pro 2012.

So the old cheese grater doesn’t get macOS 10.15 Catalina anymore. But who should blame Apple, after all a completely new Mac Pro was introduced. The round Mac Pro from 2013, which has been sold until today, will be updated for many years to come. iMacs, MacBook Airs, Pros and Mac minis will all be there from 2012.

Also with iOS 13 a few devices fly off the list. The iPhone 5s and the iPhone 6 will not be updated to the next version anymore. But everything younger from the 6s is still included. The good old 6s – it was just made on the release date for a long life.

Since Apple no longer offers iOS but iPadOS on iPads, we’ll have a quick look at the prerequisites: here we lose the iPad Air (the 2 is included) as well as iPad mini 2 and 3 (4 and 5 are included). All Pro models and “normal” iPads from the 5th generation are iOS 13 compatible. The iPod touch is included in the 6th and 7th generation.
