The authors of the German Wikipedia have decided not to make the site unavailable today in protest against article 13.
Fight back!
As we had already written here in detail, it is planned on a European level to change the copyright in the net substantially. The main point is article 13, which should legally lead to a situation where copyright infringements are no longer the responsibility of the author (like someone who drives too fast, for example) but of the platform that provides the infrastructure for the posts (i.e. in the case of those who drive too fast, the car manufacturers and the road operators).
Internet sites that allow posts and uploads from users now have two problems: they are responsible for all actions of their users and they must have absolute God-like knowledge to know who has the corresponding rights to each film, sentence and picture. Impossible.
Result: automatic upload filters are used. As a result, only large Internet companies can make these millions in investment in algorithms. This will create a situation that will once again make it easier for monopolists on the net. Small pages will not be able to meet the legal challenges and will have to restrict public postings considerably. In addition, private companies will then decide on censorship on the Internet. The EU law thus indirectly overrides freedom of expression and the previously necessary legal remedy to punish copyright infringements.
As this law is to be passed by the European Parliament on 26 March, Wikipedia is blocking its site today. Unfortunately one must say rightly there. We would like to join Wikipedia and ask you also to
