Apple has updated the Accessory Design Guidelines for accessory manufacturers and now also lists details for the use of the new iPhone MagSafe mount.
Apple’s Accessory Design Guidelines list in detail the requirements that Apple demands of accessories that are to be launched for Apple products. Interested parties can download the pdf here. In this document you will find the corresponding dimensions including technical drawings and the naming of suitable materials. For the magnets that are to be used with the MagSafe mounting, Apple requires for example magnets of the type N45SH NdFeB with a 7 µm – 13 µm NiCuNi coating – now you know.
Also precision is very important: Apple demands for MagSafe accessories that the magnets center themselves with a deviation of only 1.55 mm.
For all those who do not have their own accessory company, the document linked above can be quite interesting. It will give you an insight into the quite demanding world of accessory manufacturing and at the same time you will learn something about the standards used by Apple, for example for wireless connections.
