A new mid-range graphics card is now available in the Mac Pro for a few hundred dollars extra. The Radeon Pro W5500X (as an MPX module) is thus between the base 580X and the better W5700X in terms of price and performance.
The Radeon Pro W5500X has only half as much memory as the W5700X, namely 8 GB. The performance of 5.6 TeraFLOPS is also about half. The range of ports is somewhat limited with two HDMI connections, but according to Apple, either two 4K, one 5K monitor and even the 6K Pro Display XDR can be connected.
The half-height design of the MPX model only occupies a single slot, leaving room for further expansion of the PCIe slot. This is interesting for those who are looking for graphics performance for their workspace, but want to add other more useful features to their Mac Pro.
