With the introduction of the Mac Studio and the Studio Display, Apple has discontinued the 27-inch version of the iMac. Although there is still the small version in 24″, which already runs with the M1 chip, many people probably do not want to switch from a large to a smaller display.
While many people can get used to the sustainability aspect of a separate computer and display, because the display can be used much longer than the computer, the budget simply plays a role for many. With the 27″ iMac, you paid as much for good performance and an excellent display as you now pay for the Mac Studio alone, although the price for the processing power is quite reasonable. But many simply do not need this top performance for an everyday computer.
And this is exactly where the solution lies: simply buy the new Studio Display and combine it with an M1 Mac mini. With this you already get excellent performance and the price is 1599 + 699 = $2298. This is almost exactly $1000 more than an equally equipped 24″ iMac and at the same time only about $300 euros more than a Mac Studio – without a display, of course. To be fair, it has to be said that this comes with an SSD that is twice as large as standard.
Currently – if the 27″ iMac does not appear again – the solution is for everyone who wants a top 27″ 5K display from Apple but does not want to spend significantly more than before for an iMac (it will still be a few hundred bucks more): take the beautiful Studio Display and combine it with a Mac mini. The additional costs should be offset by the longer usage time of the display.
