Apple has also changed the chip architecture with the switch to the M1 chips. So it is no longer possible to install an operating system that would simply run on Intel CPUs, we currently still use Windows or Linux. To compensate this there is now a Patreon project to run Linux on the ARM M1 processor.
As you know, Linux is just the kernel, but we assume that the rest of the operating system should also run on the Macs of the new generation. The special challenge in this case should be the graphics card. Apple does not prevent the boot of other systems than macOS, but they do not offer any help or even technical data for the used chips.
But Hector Martin, marcan42, the initiator of the project, does not stop that. After all, he was the one who brought Linux to the Wii, PS3, and PS4. So there is plenty of experience.
If you find this project worth realizing, you can support the developer on Patreon with a monthly donation. The developer considers the development project a full-time job and plans to start with the project from 4000 dollars monthly income. The resulting code will then be released for everyone.
