There’s a new *gate being chased through the internet: Flexgate. It describes the fact that some MacBook Pros black out the display when it is opened at a certain angle.
Turning off the backlight completely, or half of it (you can see the individual LEDs lighting from below), happens because the connection cable from the display to the board breaks due to fatigue. The problem with this is that it is not possible to change it separately because it is firmly connected to the display. For a repair of the error a complete exchange of several hundred dollars is necessary.
The Website Flexgate takes care of the problem and calls up a petition there. However, the bug does not seem to be so widespread that it is making too many waves. But maybe it’s just a matter of time: the first series with this error was built in 2016.
