The EU has agreed on a uniform standard for chargers and the corresponding sockets on devices. From mid-2024, only USB-C may be used here.
This is intended to eliminate other standards from the market, such as Micro-USB or Lightning, which is still used by Apple on every iPhone. The EU hopes that this will reduce electronic waste resulting from power supplies and cables.
Apple has already converted some things to USB-C recently, such as the higher-end iPads. However, many smaller devices still rely on Lightning. A changeover to USB-C is likely to take place in these areas in the future as well.
