USB-C hubs have always been quite a technical matter. The housing was only there to hold all the technology together. Anker is now taking a new path with the 8-in-1 model 655 and is using new materials.
The new hub is already available in two colors: a dark gray and an attractive beige. The exterior of the hub is covered in faux leather. In addition, the cable is coated with nylon and gives the ensemble the finishing touch. A nice change in the monotony of USB-C hubs.
But of course the technical side should not be neglected either: Anker gives the hub the following ports:
- USB-C Power in
- HDMI with up to 4K at 60 Hz
- Network
- Audio Out
- SD and microSD slots
- two USB-A with 10 Gbit/s
This should cover the most important daily connection types. Very practical: USB-C Power in, HDBI and Ethernet are on one side, all other connections are on the other side. That’s good if, for example, you always leave the first three connected to your desk – then they look tidy and the other ports are easily accessible, for example if you have to insert a USB stick.
The hub costs around $100 and will be available shortly. An alternative is the Anker hub shown below with even more ports.
