The US Department of Commerce has added eleven companies to its own list of companies allegedly responsible for human rights violations. According to CNET, one company, Nanchang O-Film Tech, is also linked to Apple. Besides Apple, the company also produces for Amazon, Apple, Dell, GM and Microsoft.

As the US Department of Commerce writes in its report, the main issues are

  • arbitrary mass detention
  • forced labor
  • unvoluntary recording of biometric data
  • Genetic analysis

China is known to persecute Muslim minorities, especially in the Xinjiang Uighur region. The Trump government is now using these circumstances to put pressure on the Chinese government. As you can see, this is a complex situation, but it is important to know of such situations.

According to CNET, the companies concerned were not available for a statement regarding the accused points.
