Netflix now offers better audio quality.
As the streaming service announces in its blog, 5.1 sound and Dolby Atmos with variable bit rates are now supported. The following bit rates are delivered with the different formats:
- 5.1: 192 to 640 kb/s
- Dolby Atmos: 448 to 768 kb/s
Atmos is only available for customers who have completed the premium plan. In this promotional video Netflix shows the development process of the new feature using Stranger Things as an example.
Improvements in streaming are of course always welcome. We are still waiting for a streaming service to provide a higher video bit rate for an extra charge – we would sign up right away. The differences to BluRays are still quite clear. So if this becomes the next feature at Netflix, we will be happy about better sound until then.
