Microsoft has introduced a malware and virus scanner for the Mac.
After Office has always been available for the Mac for historical reasons and the Edge Browser now runs on macOS, Microsoft is now turning to security: The software called Microsoft Defender ATP, which was developed with several other companies, including Bitdefender, takes care of everything that shouldn’t go wrong on your Mac.
This can be used to scan for viruses, use an online scanner or record and report questionable computer behavior. The very extensive functions make it clear that the solution is at least currently intended for corporate customers.
Nevertheless, you can try out the first publicly released beta version after registering with Microsoft. Another practical fact is that the software updates are centralized in Microsoft: whoever uses Office, Edge and Defender does not have to deal with multiple update requests.
