What is a WAN?

WAN is the abbreviation for Wide Area Network, which means a network that is not only locally available, but has widespread use. This may cover telecommunications networks spanning several countries as well as corporate networks covering a few square kilometers.

The most famous WAN is probably the Internet, which is available almost everywhere in the world.
